The environmental laboratory is used for laboratory exercises for students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Technical University of Košice as part of the courses Fundamentals of Environmental Studies and Electrical Power Engineering and the Environment. The laboratory's equipment also allows for practical operational measurements.
Subjects and learning outcomes:
The following measuring instruments are available for measuring selected physical parameters of the working environment:
Noise level measuring device – TESTO 816 sound level meter – used to measure noise in the field of occupational safety and protection in workplaces, industrial and production halls, and also in public places, in the range of 30 ÷ 130 dB, with an accuracy of ±1.4 dB in the frequency range 0 Hz ÷ 8 kHz. It allows for accurate spot measurement and long-term noise assessment. The time evaluation can be set to Slow (1 s) or Fast (125 ms) as required.
Illuminance meter (light intensity) – LUTRON LX-1102 luxmeter – has five measuring ranges in a wide band of 40 ÷ 400,000 lux, with a high resolution of 0.01 ÷ 100 lux, with an accuracy of ±(3% + 0.5%). A detachable light probe allows light to be measured in the optimal position.
Instruments for measuring the indoor microclimate – 2 Digitherm 01 touch thermometers, Testo 608-H1 thermohygrometer, and Lutron LM-81AM anemometer. The Testo 608-H1 thermohygrometer allows the measurement of temperature (in the range of -20 to +50 °C) and relative humidity (in the range of 10 to 95%), as well as the calculation and display of the dew point. The Lutron LM-81AM anemometer is used to measure air flow velocity in the range of 0.4 to 30 m/s, at an operating temperature of 0 to 50 °C and relative humidity of max. 80%.
Devices for measuring electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields – the Lutron EMF 823 device allows the measurement of magnetic induction of low-frequency electromagnetic fields in measuring ranges up to 20, 200 and 2000 µT for frequencies of 30 ÷300 Hz, with an accuracy of ± 4% for the 20 µT range, ± 5% for the 200 µT range and ± 10% for the 2000 µT range. The Chauvin Arnoux C.A 42 device is used to measure magnetic induction in the range of 200 nT to 40 mT, for a frequency range of 10 Hz to 30 kHz. The ME3830B electrosmog analyzer allows the measurement of electric and magnetic fields with a frequency range of 16 Hz to 100 kHz, for electric field intensities of 1 to 1999 V/m and magnetic induction of 1 to 1999 nT with an accuracy of < ± 2% at 100 nT or V/m.
