The Partial Discharge Laboratory is a research and teaching facility. It specializes in partial discharge (PD) measurements and related measurement techniques for testing high-voltage equipment and components.
Teaching in the laboratory includes the study of the development of partial discharges in dielectrics, under varying electric and thermal fields, and in various arrangements of insulating models and samples. In addition to general methods, the laboratory is also equipped with equipment enabling the recording and analysis of acoustic emission of partial discharges. These are primarily measurements aimed at the use of on-line technologies for monitoring the development of partial discharges on-line in technological processes. Laboratory exercises also include measuring the properties of insulating materials.
